Kralendijk is Bonaire’s capital, but it’s by no means a metropolis. This historic town is the beating heart of the island. The further north you find Rincon, a historic settlement dating back to 16 the century. A good, two-kilometre swim from Kralendijk you find Klein Bonaire, a sand and rock fringed uninhabited escape surrounded by the most amazing colourful reefs and fishes that attract snorkelers and divers from all over the world.
What’s in a name? Koralendijk, a degeneration of coral reef or coral dike in the local language Papiamentu is where Kralendijk comes from. It is Bonaire’s capital and main port, but it’s by no means a metropolis. This historic town is sweet as cotton candy with colorful local architecture. We always like an early morning coffee at GIO, the ice parlor in Kaya Grandi or just take a stroll to bring a sweet memory souvenir home.
