Today the mangroves are used for recreation purposes. On Bonaire you can book interesting tours by kayak through the crystal clear waters. However in the old days it were the fisherman who recognized the importance to the eco system : the mangroves were the incubator of various species of fish that thrive in Bonaire waters. We had a chat with Elly Albers, naturalist and owner of the Mangrove center to learn a bit more about the beauty of this mangrove sweet spot on the island.
